Turning Back Time: Chapter 2

All right! It’s (almost) been a month. That means it is time… for chapter two of my novella, “Turning Back Time”! The title of this chapter is “The story.” I’ll include a summary below of the previous chapter.

If you haven’t read chapter 1 (“The angel”), click here.

Spoiler alert (for chapter 1): In chapter 1, we are introduced to Maggie, who is a very quiet, private person. She, along with everyone else, walks to the Storyteller’s Oval every morning, where they are met with the Storyteller. The Storyteller tells them stories of heroes and such, and all the kids love it. The following chapter is the story the Storyteller tells them one day.

Ready? Okay!

“Once a time not long forgotten

a young one try be not alone

a secret item not quite misgotten

but nonetheless rather unknown

terrible things had befallen

on the young one’s very own

but fear not, for it was a callin’

of power inside, like a throne.

“Then a Guardian came to warn,

though bound by book in certain terms,

of an Evil that was forsworn,

ly’ng of an oath made on a berms.

on every early daylit morn

our Hero their mission now affirms

at others’ expense, worlds are torn

between healthy ones and those with germs.

“But after practice, to their dismay,

our Hero is sadly away

desolate feelings pray and pray

on the mind, for them to display

contemp’rary sadness shall long stay

but everything changes in one short day;

the item retrieved by a delay.

all of this work is done by May.

“Soon, a friendship starts to flourish,

a new desire now fulfilled,

but, of course, joy soon will perish,

in saving others, our Hero’s unskilled

so afresh is a minor skirmish

not made to refine our Hero’s guild.

soon taught to use to refurbish,

instead of break down, used to build.

“Wait, soon enough an old lie arises,

trouble returns with dreadful timing

fear, anger, and new compromises

line the way for more priming

unprepared when Evil rises,

the Guardian must help in designing

but terror strikes before the prizes

and Evil starts to do some criming.

“Worse and worse the outcome is,

our Hero’s closest are under the curse,

the Guardian’s help’s no more a wiz,

conflict comes, and it is not terse.

a great battle, filled with fizz

a bigger drama to rehearse

a reveal not shown on a quiz

that causes the Guardian to disperse

“Soon, a lonely road is walked,

a sacrifice for the greater good

a strange feeling no longer talked

through silence, it is understood

“Things return to the way they were,

a small change this time, like cleansed fur.

“Instead of scared and shy this time,

our satisfied Hero starts to shine.

“The Moral:

Brave deeds that lead to brave actions

will not let anyone turn back –

whether time, behavior, or beliefs.

Do not let that stop you.”

Okay! That was chapter 2, “The story”! That was the shortest chapter in the novella so far, so next time, you’ll have more to read. Thank you for reading and Just Keep Writing! : )
